Combat poultry red mite risks including blood loss, anemia, irritation, stress, reduced egg production, weakened flock performance, and persistent infestations with Resylica® Technology for effective, targeted, long-lasting control.
The Poultry Red Mite (Dermanyssus gallinae) is one of the most economically significant external parasites affecting commercial and backyard poultry worldwide. These tiny, blood-feeding ectoparasites spend most of their life hidden in cracks, crevices, nesting boxes, perches, cage joints, and structural voids, emerging primarily at night to feed on birds before returning to their harbourages. Poultry red mites reproduce rapidly, and under favourable conditions their populations can increase dramatically within a few weeks. Their secretive behaviour and ability to survive for extended periods without feeding make infestations particularly difficult to eliminate.
The global poultry parasiticides market size was valued at USD 2.8 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach USD 4.9 billion by 2032, growing at a compound annual growth rate CAGR of 6.3% from 2024 to 2032.
Heavy infestations can have serious consequences for bird health, welfare, and farm productivity.
By feeding repeatedly on blood, poultry red mites cause irritation, stress, feather pecking, reduced feed intake, anaemia, decreased egg production, poor egg quality, reduced weight gain, and weakened immunity. Severe infestations may lead to increased mortality, particularly in young or heavily infested birds.
In commercial poultry operations, red mite infestations also result in significant economic losses through reduced productivity, increased veterinary costs, lower flock performance, and additional labour required for control. Poultry red mites can also act as mechanical carriers of several poultry pathogens, increasing the importance of effective mite management.
Poultry red mites spend over 90–95% of their life cycle away from the host bird, remaining concealed inside extremely narrow cracks, crevices, cage joints, perch supports, nest boxes, equipment, and structural voids. Conventional sprays often fail to penetrate these hidden harbourages, leaving a large proportion of the mite population unaffected.
In addition, repeated use of conventional acaricides has resulted in resistance in many poultry red mite populations, reducing the long-term effectiveness of traditional chemical treatments.
These challenges require an innovative solution capable of penetrating hidden harbourages and providing rapid physical control.
Resylica® Technology controls poultry red mites through an advanced physical mode of action. When a droplet of the formulation comes into contact with a poultry red mite, its ultra-low surface tension enables it to spread rapidly across the mite’s body, completely wetting the cuticle and maximizing surface contact.
The formulation quickly reaches the mite’s spiracles the microscopic respiratory openings located on the body. Owing to its exceptional spreading properties, the formulation rapidly enters these openings before the mite can effectively limit exposure.
Once inside the respiratory system, the formulation floods the tracheal airways, disrupting normal respiration by preventing efficient oxygen exchange. The mite rapidly experiences respiratory distress, followed by suffocation, physiological shock, immobilization, and ultimately death.
The same ultra-low surface tension that enables rapid respiratory disruption also allows the formulation to penetrate deep into cracks, crevices, nesting equipment, cage systems, perch supports, and structural harbourages, helping to reach hidden mite populations that conventional treatments often fail to contact.
Acts through a physical mechanism that rapidly disrupts respiration upon direct contact, providing effective control without relying solely on conventional chemical toxicity.
Spreads instantly across the mite's body, ensuring complete wetting and maximizing contact with the cuticle.
The formulation quickly enters the spiracles, floods the respiratory system, and interrupts normal breathing, leading to suffocation, physiological shock, and death.
Flows into cage joints, perch supports, nest boxes, wall cracks, equipment gaps, and structural crevices where poultry red mites spend most of their life cycle.
Reaches mites concealed within their daytime harbourages, improving control of the infestation at its source rather than targeting only exposed individuals.
Forms a thin, continuous film that enhances coverage and improves the likelihood of contact with hidden mites.
Suitable for use in layer farms, breeder operations, broiler houses, hatcheries, cage systems, free-range housing, and other poultry production environments as part of an integrated mite management programme.
